Even before he completed university, he joined the law school where he began a career as paralegal and public affairs director at a regional law firm based in Gainesville, FL, specializing in criminal defense, personal injury, and wrongful death cases.
This background and experience have given him the unique opportunity to apply his legal knowledge in covering many major headlines in Northwest Arkansas, like the Benton County retrial of Mauricio Torres.
Tavares Jones Career
Tavares started his career as an intern at the NBC News affiliate in Orlando, FL.
He also worked in WGXA-TV before he joined FOX 24 News. There, he worked for three years covering breaking news and severe weather in Central GA as a breaking news anchor and reporter. He would also spend some time working at WHIO-TV in Dayton, OH.
He joined KNWA Today in summer 2019 where he works to date.
Tavares is committed to serving the local community and devotes much of his time to various organizations like the National Coalition for the Homeless, Children’s Miracle Network, Catholic Charities, United Way, and the Miss America Scholarship Organization.
Tavares also once contributed to live coverage of the funeral procession for fallen Fayetteville police officer Stephen Carr. This police officer was killed in December of 2019 by a gunman while in the line of duty.
He also covered the Bella Vista man who had been convicted for the rape and murder of his 6-year-old son.
He has served as emcee for the American Heart Association of Northwest Arkansas’ Cycle Nation event, so as to help the community take control of heart and brain health.
His Professional affiliations are; the National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists, and the Radio Television Digital News Association among others.
