Curry was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. She is a daughter to Dell Curry a former basketball player and Sonya Curry who is a former collegiate volleball player. In his family she is the youngest. She has two brothers Stephen Curry and Seth Curry. Seth is a promising young NBA player, currently with the Dallas Mavericks as a point guard, while Stephen, who plays for the ‘Golden State Warriors,’ is regarded as the greatest shooter in the NBA history by many. When she was 7 years old, she moved to Toronto with her father, who had signed up with ‘Toronto Raptors’ (for whom he played his final three NBA seasons). Sydel started her elementary schooling at the ‘Queensway Christian College’ in Etobicoke, Ontario, but the Canadian sojourn lasted for just a year. Dell’s stint with the ‘Toronto Raptors’ ended in 2002 and the family moved back to North Carolina.

Sydel started to play Volleball when she joined Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, North Carolina. For three of those years, she was a four-year starter and a captain. The team reached the state quarterfinals for three seasons under her leadership. Sydel played a huge part in helping her team post a new school record for most wins in a season in the 2012 season.
Sydel was a four-time CISAA All-Conference selection from 2009 to 2012 and three-time NCISAA All-State selection from 2011-2012. Prior to playing for her school team, Sydel played for the for the Carolina Union club and attended nationals with them in 2012.
During her College she had two options; Elon University or UNC-Greensboro, she picked the former. However, her freshman year didn’t start as smooth as she might have liked as she was redshirted for a knee injury. Curry played 81 matches and posted 2,381 career assists in her four years with the Lady Phoenix, making her the 8th highest on the team’s all-time leaderboard. She had 851 helpers placing her at 11th for the most helpers in a single season in the 2015 season. Sydel in 1,170 assists in the 2016 season is the 5th highest in a single season. In her 5th year she opted not to play due to dislocation of her knee. She graduated in May 2017 with a degree in Psychology.

Dell Curry is the father to Sydel Curry. He is an American former professional player. Sydel’s father played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1986 until 2002 and retired as the Charlotte Hornets’ all-time leader in points (9,839) and three-point field goals made (929). Currently he works as a color commentator, alongside Eric Collins and Stephanie Ready, on Charlotte Hornets television broadcasts. His sons Stephen Curry and Seth Curry. took after him.
