Marquette recounted this, and said “When the coach threatened to take my scholarship away from me to focus on being a punter I was like, ‘All right, well, if you want to take my scholarship away from me, well, I’m going to find a way to make this position look fun.'”During his senior year, King was an All-First Team Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member and the 2011 FVSU Wildcats Most Valuable Player. In 2011 season, King punted 80 yards against Bethune-Cookman University he also led his opponents’ SIAC 2011 season, in punting with a 43 yards per punt average, with 21 punts landing inside his opponents’ 20-yard-line. His Sixteen punts yielded 50 yards or more. Marquette competed in the first annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in 2012.

New England Patriots wideout Cordarrelle Patterson said on Good Morning Football on Wednesday 11th October 2018 that his former teammates on the Oakland Raiders didn’t like punter Marquette King.
“People didn’t like him, dude,” Patterson said, per Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com. “He was kind of like a diva, but he wasn’t. He wouldn’t show it that much. He was just crazy, man. He had fun though. I respect him as a person, but he just did things a little different.”
Pro Football Focus ranked King, 29, third among all punters in 2017 making his release perplexing. When cutting him saved the Raiders $2.85 million against the 2018 cap, it seemed like small savings for a player who also finished third in net punting average.
