Holt is an American journalist and news anchor and journalist working  for the NBC Nightly News,  weekday and Dateline edition. He was born on March 8, 1959 in Marin County, California, United States.

Lester graduated in Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova in 1977 then after majored in government at California State University, Sacramento, however, he did not  graduate. His first job was as a D J in a country and Western station. He kept the job throughout his college life.

After working for CBS for 19 years as an anchor, reporter and  international correspondent, Lester then joined WCBS Tv in New York as a reporter [1981]. In 1982, he stated working for KNXT in Los Angeles as a  weekend anchor and reporter. From that time, Lester has worked in various stations reporting even in troubled spots like Iraq and Somalia.

Holt has made cameo appearances in the 1993 film The Fugitive. Its 1998 sequel US Marshals and Primal Fear in 1996.

He has also done Television shows including playing for himself in episodes of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit; and many others.

Holt is remembered well for the way he moderated the presidential debates in 2016,he also interviewed the US president Donald Trump in 2017. His colleagues said that Holt asked very tough but appropriate questions.

In this interview, they discussed Trump’s firing of FBI director James Comey. This resulted in extensive media coverage.
