Leon G. Thomas III was born on August 1, 1993 in Brooklyn, New York City, to Jayon Anthony and Leon Thomas II. He made his Broadway debut at the age of 10 in 2003 as Young Simba in the Broadway production of The Lion King. In 2004, he appeared as Jackie Thibodeaux in the original Broadway cast of Tony Kushner’s Caroline, or Change.

Thomas also provided the singing voice of Tyrone on the Nick Jr. animated series The Backyardigans (2006–2008). In 2007, he appeared alongside Robin Williams and Terrence Howard in the film August Rush (2007) as Arthur, in which he performed the song “La Bamba.”

In 2010, Thomas landed his breakout role as André Harris on the Nickelodeon series Victorious. He remained on the show for its four-season run, and received a NAACP Image Award nomination for his performance.

Since Victorious, Thomas has continued to act and sing. He has appeared in the films Detroit (2017) and FraXtur (2023), and the TV shows Insecure (2016-2021) and Detroit: Become Human (2022). Broadway and career beginning (2003–2006)

Thomas made his Broadway debut when he was 10 years old as Young Simba in the Broadway production of The Lion King. In 2004, he appeared in the original Broadway cast of Tony Kushner’s Caroline, or Change as Jackie Thibodeaux. During the company’s tour of five-month run, Thomas toured with the company in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He also performed in the Broadway production of The Color Purple.

August Rush and television appearances (2007–2009)
Thomas appeared in the 2007 film August Rush as Arthur, performing the song “La Bamba” and was the singing voice for Tyrone in The Backyardigans. He also guest starred on Jack’s Big Music Show and Just Jordan. Thomas also appeared in the iCarly episode “iCarly Saves TV” as Harper and was featured on The Naked Brothers Band Christmas Special.

Victorious and musical career (2010-2012) 
Thomas played a main character as Andre Harris on Victorious, which premiered on March 27, 2010 on Nickelodeon. He also portrayed Andre Harris in the crossover episode between Victorious and iCarly, “iParty with Victorious”. Thomas also appeared in an episode of True Jackson, VP as himself. The album “Victorious: Music from the Hit TV Show” was launched on August 2, 2011, with Thomas featured in the songs “Song 2 You” (written by him) and “Tell Me That You Love Me”.

“Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show” was released on June 5, 2012, with Thomas featured in the songs “Countdown” and “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”. In July 2012, the Victorious television series ended production and the show’s final episode aired on February 2, 2013. During the seasons of Victorious , where episodes such as The Bird Scene, Tori the Zombie and Survival of the Hottest predominated, Thomas had the opportunity to share a recording set with different young artists like him they were in search of artistic possibilities, some of them were Ariana Grande, Victoria Justice, Matt Bennett, Elizabeth Gillies, JC Gonzalez among others.

Thomas started to record his first mixtape called Metro Hearts in 2012 and it was released on August 1, 2012. The mixtape Metro Hearts has songs like “Forever”, “Bad”, “Moving On”, “Vibe”, “Like Clay” and “Never Look Back”. A cover of “Take Care” by Drake was also included in the mixtape. The cover is by Leon Thomas featuring Ariana Grande.

Thomas co-wrote a for the British group Stooshe named “Ain’t No Other Me”, which features as a deluxe edition track on their debut album, London with the Lights On. He co-wrote four songs on Ariana Grande’s 2013 album “Yours Truly”. Thomas also co-produced five songs on Yours Truly, in addition to the song “Last Christmas” from Grande’s Christmas Kisses EP, as a member of production duo The Rascals. In addition, Thomas’ work in production as a part of “The Rascals” was included on the Grammy award-winning album Love, Marriage & Divorce. Leon Thomas released a new single on September 24, 2013 named “Hello How Are You”, featuring Wiz Khalifa. Thomas released a new mixtape on January 1, 2014 named V1bes, under the name Leon Thomas, via Datpiff. Thomas also announced that a music video for his single, Hello How Are You, was in the works. Thomas served as a co-producer for Post Malone’s album Stoney in 2016. He appeared in the Kathryn Bigelow-directed film Detroit in 2017.
