Gina Gaston Biography

Gina Gaston is an American reporter and anchor who is currently working for ABC13. She re-joined this channel for the Eyewitness News at 6 pm and Eyewitness News at 10 pm in June 2001 after leaving it for MSNBC. Previously, Gina worked as the co-anchor of the top-rated 13 Eyewitness News at 6 am, after having joined KTRK-TV, ABC13 in towards the end of 1992.

Gaston at first came to KTRK-TV, ABC13 towards the end of 1992 as a co-anchor in the then newly expanded, and later on top-rated 13 Eyewitness News at 6 am. She went on as an anchor and reporter until 1999. After that Gina left the station and moved to New York where she worked for MSNBC. In June 2001 she returned to ABC13, serving as a reporter and co-anchor, but this time for the Eyewitness News at 6 pm and at 10 pm.

While with 13 Eyewitness News, she covered the story of O.J. Simpson’s trial in Los Angeles, the Rockets Championships, and the Democratic National Convention among others. During this time when she was working with MSNBC, she was lucky to find love, and she married the former Houston Rocket basketball star, Mario Elie. The two had met when Gina was covering a Rocket championship game.

At MSNBC, she was a network correspondent, she actually anchored the 2000 presidential election from coast to coast, even the Florida ballot recounts.  Gaston also anchored the Inaugural activities of President George W. Bush,   departure to Cuba of Elian Gonzale, the Mid-East Violence as well as the South American earthquake among other top stories.

Gaston has also interviewed top politicians in America like Senators, Olympia Snowe, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Kay Bailey Hutchison. Also, the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating.

She was as well working at WTSP-TV in Tampa, Florida as an anchor and reporter. Another place she also worked is at WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania plus KLTV in Tyler, Texas.

Important to note, Gaston is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. She was honored by the Associated Press Broadcasters for News Reporting.
