George Stephanopoulos Biography
George Stephanopoulos is an American journalist, political commentator and former Democratic advisor. He is currently the chief anchor and the chief political correspondent for ABC News, a co-anchor of Good Morning America, and the host of ABC’s Sunday morning This Week. Stephanopoulos is a regular substitute anchor for ABC World News Tonight.
Apart from his career as a journalist, Stephanopoulos was an advisor to the Democratic Party. Stephanopoulos rose to early prominence as a communications director for the 1992 presidential campaign of Bill Clinton and subsequently became White House communications director. Later he was senior advisor for policy and strategy, before departing in December 1996. Stephanopoulos is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

George his father is a Greek Orthodox priest and dean emeritus of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City. Nikolista his mother was the director of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America National News Service for many years. When he was a youth, he became a follower of the Greek Orthodox faith, and long considered entering the priesthood.

Stephanopoulos married his wife Alexandra Wentworth, an actress, comedian, and writer, in 2001 at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on New York’s Upper East Side. The two have two daughters: Elliott Anastasia Stephanopoulos and Harper Andrea Stephanopoulos They all live in Manhattan.

When the family of George moved to the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio,he attended Orange High school in Pepper Pike. This is where he started wrestling competitively.
George pursued with his education and in 1982 he received a bachelor of arts degree in political Science summa cum laude from Columbia University in New York and was the salutatorian of his class. In Columbia George elected to Phi Beta Kappa his junior year and was awarded a Harry S. Truman Scholarship and was a sports broadcaster for WKCR-FM the university’s radio station.
His father wanted his son to become either a lawyer or a priest. After he promised his father that he would attend law school eventually George took a job in Washington, DC as an aide to Democratic Congressman Ed Feighan of Ohio.
He atttended Balliol College at the University of Oxford in England, as a Rhodes Scholar, earning a Masters of Arts in Theology in 1984. George said that he spent much of his time trying to root his political leanings in the deeper philosophies that he studied while in college.

ABC News said on Wednesday August 21, 2019 that chief anchor George, World News Tonight anchor David Muir, correspondent Linsey Davis and Univision anchor Jorge Ramos will moderate the network’s Democratic candidate debate next month.
The debate which will be held in Houston, will take only one night unless more than 10 Democratic candidates qualify. As it currently stands, 10 candidates have qualified to participate.
