Erik Barajas Career
A native of Texas, Erik has worked as a reporter and an anchor all over the state. Before he came to Houston, he was working at KSAT 12 in San Antonios as a weekend anchor and reporter for four years.
He began his television career in Corpus Christi, Texas at KZTV 10. Here he did different jobs, he was a news photographer, reporter, producer as well as well as anchor. His involvement in the different positions helped to give him a perspective of the challenges it takes to produce the news. He later moved to Austin, Texas then to KTBC Fox 7 where he worked as the weekend reporter anchor.
Barajas has traveled to Louisiana to cover the Gulf Oil spill, which he reported from Austin, Texas, he also covered President Barack Obama’s visit there. Of the most notable stories he covered was the crash of the space shuttle Columbia on the borders of Texas and Louisiana.
According to him, working in Houston at KTRK-TV is “a true blessing” since he can work “in front of family and friends”. Staying in Texas throughout his career, so far has been eye-opening to him in terms of getting to know the state better and realizing just how wide the state is. He joined KTRK-TV’s 13 Eyewitness News in March 2008.
